The term can refer to both software having the functions of a recording studio, that all the software and machinery it needs to function. In this case, it may be a specialized and integrated system or a computer connected to a number of external accessories. The objective of DAW is to capture the sound from an input of the sound card to the store on a digital audio track, then mix the tracks and recorded them and eventually with other virtual instruments in order to obtain a master who used to broadcast the piece.
